Institute for Public Leadership - Real Women Run!. Join us for the YWCA's Institute for Public Leadership, and help us kick off Corpus Christi's 100th Anniversary Celebration* for the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote in the United States of America.

Join local campaign managers, politicians, and speakers on September 28th for the YWCA Institute for Public Leadership (IPL), a non-partisan, non-issue campaign-skills workshop for women interested in politics. The event will be held 9-noon at the YWCA, 4601 Corona Drive in Corpus Christi.

Participants will learn about pre-campaign planning, active campaigning, and post campaign execution. A panel of speakers will also share their experiences and be available for questions.

Each Texas county generally sends out its annual NOTICE OF APPRAISED VALUE for residential properties in early April. The LWV of Corpus Christi's very own Sue Williams has volunteered to explain the process and help us wade through the volumes of data/evidence available to each of as property owners to help us decide whether we agree/disagree with the Chief Appraiser's proposed value. Why does Sue have the unique credentials to offer this course? Because she has been a licensed Texas Real Estate Broker for over 23 years; instructor and later Executive Director of the Real Estate Institute of Corpus Christi from 1994+2010; and a member of the Nueces County Appraisal Review Board from 2013+2018.

Bob Popinski, Director of Policy, Raise Your Hand Texas, will speak on the LWVTX priority issue: "Financing Public Education in Texas". He is considered an expert on the Texas school finance system.

Evelyn Delgado, President, Healthy Futures of Texas and Chair of the Texas Women's Healthcare Coalition, will speak on LWVTX priority issue: "Women's Health in Texas." Delgado has extensive experience as a senior-level executive leader in public health at the Texas Department of State Health Services, including overseeing women's and children's health programs.

Individual tickets are $100 pp and can be ordered online at the LWVTX website. Victoria M DeFrancesco Soto, Ph.D. will speak on "The Power of Women" Voting, Policy, and Politics in Texas. Dr. Soto is a lecturer at The University of Texas' LBJ School of Public Affairs, where she was selected as one of UT's Game Changers. Most recently, Victoria was a featured expert in the PBS documentary "Willie Velasquez: Your Vote is Your Voice," about the civil rights trailblazer.

January Lunch - Voter Registrar Training. The January lunch meeting this month features free training for league members and community individuals who want to be deputized as Voter Registrars for 2019 and 2020.

Training starts at noon and lasts about 45 minutes. League business to be briefly discussed prior.

Training will be provided by Brenda Nunez, Voter Registration Supervisor for Nueces County. Participants who complete the training will receive voter registration materials and their DVR number and may begin registering voters in Nueces County.

National Voter Registration Day is scheduled Tuesday, September 25, 2018, and the Corpus Christi League of Women Voters will be among hundreds of organizations and groups throughout the United States helping register voters and encouraging them to vote in the November 6 election.

The League has designated the following three venues:

  • Keach Family Library in Robstown (Highway 44 at Richard Borchard Fairgrounds), 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and 4:00-6:30 p.m.

She will be introduced by Marshall Burns, CBCIL Board member who will address the importance of the disability vote and details of the national REV UP campaign called REV UP--Register! Educate! ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING - MAY 23 2015 As the League of Women Voters celebrates its 95th birthday, LWV-CC celebrates its 70th. Annual meeting was held Saturday morning, May 23rd at Sugarbakers, 10am-noon $20 Ms. Ruthann Geer, past president of the Texas LWV and current Leadership Membership Development (MLD) coach for our chapter was the special guest. Actions: Officer elections for the coming year,proposed budget approval, ratification of local position statements.

Plan-CC 2035 will replace or update the fragment city master plan, (introduced in the late 80"s with no amendments since 1995).     Friday, December 20, 5-7:30pm. Christmas Happy Hour & new member recruitment. We will gather at 227 Water Street in the Dos Comales Cantina. There will be appetizers and a cash bar with lots of Christmas spirit and enthusiasm for the coming year.     11/21/13 LWV-CC conducted the Consensus Session on the Texas Human Trafficking Study. The M&G presentation was rescheduled to accommodate this important consensus study.

    10/17/13 Mayor Martinez and Councilman Loeb joined us to talk about Destination Bayfront; members of opposition groups joined the discussion. (Due to scheduling difficulties our local League did not sponsor the planned public forum related to the bond issue election for Destination Bayfront.)
