Party Leaders and the County Clerk will present information and answer questions on the State Countywide Polling Program. Nueces County has applied to participate in this program which would no longer require people to vote in their assigned precinct on Election Day. LWV-CC Monthly Membership September 2015 Meeting. Our September meeting will focus on voter registration and will feature Mr. Tyner Little, Americans with Disabilities Act compliance officer for Nueces County and Ms. Kara Sands, Nueces County Clerk. These speakers will bring us up-to-date on the current status of Nueces County polling sites and the plans to assure that ADA compliance is achieved and acceptable to the Department of Justice. Their presentation will be from Noon to 1:00 with time for questions and answers from the audience.

Following their presentation Ms. Nuri Rodriguez, Voter Registration Supervisor for Nueces County will train any of our members needing their initial or renewed training to become certified deputy voter registrars. This dual presentation should be very informative and worthwhile for all members.

Box lunches will be provided by the Del Mar Culinary Arts Department, please call the League's answering service at 445-4436 and leave a message to reserve a box lunch. The cost is $10.

Board Retreat. New officers for the League of Women Voters-Corpus Christi Area were elected on May 23, 2015, at an annual meeting which celebrated the 70th anniversary of the local League. The new Board will hold a planning retreat on Saturday, June 13, at the YWCA to discuss leadership opportunities, program planning, and dates for meetings and special activities.

The following officers will lead the 85-member organization during 2015-2016:

So, we will be returning to the Hibachi Grill on Thursday, March 19th, for our monthly meeting. Our program will be a discussion of the position statements that the LWV-CC has related to areas of local government and natural resources. Our local, state and national positions are reviewed annually and these positions assist the League leadership when speaking to government representatives. The 69th Annual Meeting of the Corpus Christi Area League of Women Voters is scheduled for May 17th from 10 AM to noon at Sugarbakers Bakery located at 2766 Santa Fe. In the past this has been an evening event and fundraiser for the league. This year we are trying a different time, location, and program than past years. Members will enjoy a champagne brunch while voting on the new slate of nominees for officers and approving the budget proposed for next year. There may be a surprise speaker at our brunch but at this writing the plan is for us to discuss the league's direction and business with the broad membership. The cost for attending is $ 15.00 to cover the cost of the champagne and brunch. Our April Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 17 and will convene at 11:30 in room 117 at the Delmar Center for Economic Development campus. Our speaker will be Mr. Jeff Shea who is currently working for M&G Resin Company in South Carolina and is scheduled to be the site manager for the M&G facility planned for the corpus Christi ship channel. He will bring us up-to-date regarding the permitting process and the expected date for the opening of the new plant. First speaker - Diana Barrera, Nueces County Clerk in Charge of Elections who will discuss the latest election/precinct changes. Chris Garcia will facilitate a meeting on Monday, January 9th, 5:00 PM at the LWV-CC offices at the corner of Alameda and Doddridge, Room #305 . Every two years, the LWV-Texas gives local leagues the opportunity to look at State League positions and become familiar with these positions and see if any changes in wording or expansion of local positions including new legal aspects, warrant additions or tweaking. This information will then be available at the annual state convention in April at which time a vote is taken on the State League positions.
